I really fucking miss my Liberator Sex Pillow.
If you don’t already know, the Mister and I (and our 2 year old) have been travelling Central America for the last 6 months or so.
When you’re travelling, you have to pack light. We each brought one suitcase and, as you can imagine, sacrifices were made. I can manage life without most of my toys. We really only brought a few with us and have been shopping as we encounter sex shops as we travel. The pillow-under-the-butt trick just isn’t cutting it lately so I thought I’d take some time to talk about the Liberator today.
Sex Pillows – What you need to know
The Liberator Sex Pillow
Until I owned a sex pillow, I had no idea that this item even existed, let alone that there were almost 10,000 google searches monthly for “sex pillow.”
What is a sex pillow?
Well, simply put, a sex pillow is something that you use to prop yourself up in various ways during sex. Every single person that has sex can use it and would probably benefit from one.
The Liberator Wedge, specifically, is a wedge shaped pillow that’s made from a very firm memory foam that’s covered in a microfiber cover.
It doesn’t seem like much when I say it like that does it?
It’s kind of hard to believe that a simple pillow can increase sensations during sex, allow you or your partner to thrust deeper than before, and prevent sore necks and body parts. Whether it’s missionary, cowgirl, reverse cowgirl, doggy style, or oral sex, you name it. Screwing will feel better or be more comfortable with this sex pillow.
You won’t find much competition to Liberator. It’s actually strange how they have a complete monopoly on sex furniture! It’s not entirely surprising, however because this is a high quality sex furniture brand with an excellent lineup of products.
They sell many different types of sex furniture but probably the most popular and versatile piece that they offer is the wedge pillow.
How Does a Sex Pillow Help?
Have you ever had sex with someone that feels like they’re sinking into the bed every time you thrust against them?
I’m not saying that your partner is a bad dick taker or dick giver. Don’t worry.
I’m saying that in some positions and for some body types, as the fuck-ee, it’s hard to thrust back towards the fuck-er. I hope that makes sense.
Here’s an example:
Sometimes when the Mister is on top, I like to wrap my legs around his waist. When my legs are around his waist, I have no leverage to really move my hips towards him while he’s thrusting against me. My energy is focused on making sure that when he pushes against me, I’m at least staying put and not getting pushed back towards the bed.
This is pretty hard on the abs.
I’m not a slouch by any means, but there’s not much strength left for me to rise up to meet him mid thrust using only my ab muscles.
Here is a situation where the Liberator wedge is superb. I can put the wedge underneath my backside and angle myself up towards him. Because the foam is so firm, at the very least, I stay put when he’s thrusting against me. This lets me save a bit of valuable abdomen muscle strength for trying to fuck him back.
Not convinced? Here’s another use for a good sex pillow:
Oral sex. You Need a Sex Pillow for Oral Sex
I am not particularly experienced in going down on ladies, especially for long periods of time. The Mister, however, has enough hours logged to earn a degree in pussy eating. One of the things that he mentions (he’s not complaining, he insists) is that his neck gets sore if he’s down there for an extended amount of time. His neck gets sore because he’s laying on his stomach and basically looking up to lick my clitoris.
He could put a pillow under my butt, but that’s not solving the actual problem.
I used to think that the reason he put the pillow under me was to raise me up a little bit. I literally just learned while asking him about his opinions on the Liberator what the point of the pillow under me was.
The purpose is to angle my vulva so that when he’s laying on his stomach, he doesn’t have to look up and his neck doesn’t strain. There is also now room under my ass cheeks for his hands to move vibrators or other toys.
I did you a favor and drew a picture that depicts his neck position with and without a sex pillow wedge under my ass.
I realize that I drew myself as only a vulva but I assure you that I think of myself as much more than just my genitals!
Liberator Wedge Sex Pillow Features
I know it seems like “just a pillow,” but honestly, there is a reason why this product is so popular. Liberator has basically thought of everything here.
This is a soft outer cover. Thank goodness that the cover comes off because sex juices are quite obvious on this material. There’s also a moisture-proof liner underneath to protect the foam.
It’s extremely comfortable and won’t rub or give you rug burns.
It’s also non-slip. I’m not saying that you can put it on the tile floor and pound away without it moving, but it won’t move on your bed or on the carpet for sure.
When I first got this sex pillow, I was surprised at how firm it actually was. We’re used to pillows that squish when we sit on them. I guess in this sense, this isn’t really a pillow because it’s meant to prop you up.
If you remember the blue gym mats you used to have in school, they also made wedges and other shapes with that stuff. That would be similar to the firmness of the Liberator.
The deep thinkers at Liberator have determined that 27 degrees is optimal for the greatest depth for penetration with vaginal and anal sex. I’m not a biomechanics engineer, but this sounds ok to me.
Extra Covers Available
If you ruin your cover somehow or want to get a different color, you can easily pick up extra covers from Liberator.
Wedge Conversion Kit
This is kind of neat. You can buy a conversion kit that includes a cover with clips on it. Why would you want clips you ask? Well to attach your handcuffs of course!
Plus Sized Version Available
The standard size is 14 x 24 x 7 inches. The plus sized version of the Liberator is 14 x 30 x 7 inches, so, 6 inches wider. Liberator recommends this pillow for “lovers over 300 pounds,” so just because you or your partner are plus sized, doesn’t mean you necessarily need a the bigger size. That being said, bigger is sometimes better for sex pillows!
While it’s not the cheapest pillow you can find, I think you’ll be extremely satisfied with the quality of the Liberator and how much of a difference it makes in your sex life. I’ve owned my Liberator now for about four years and it’s showing zero signs of wear or lack of integrity.
Is it perfect? Hmm.
I think that the color options aren’t exactly the nicest. The red is REALLY red, the blue is REALLY blue, etc. They’re not really colors that blend in well with normal decor. You can get black, or brown, yes, but I’d like to see something that wouldn’t look out of place if you left it out in your bedroom when company came over. If they just muted the colors or added a navy or burgundy, I think it could also be a decor piece.
In terms of function, how would I improve this?
I think I would add slight butt divots onto one side of the wedge. Sort of a little well that my bum cheeks could fit into. I mentioned that it’s a very firm foam and so it might feel better if it was a little bit more molded to my body. I don’t know, maybe that’s why it works so well, because it doesn’t mold to your body!
Maybe just decide for yourself. If you decide that you do want a sex pillow, however, there’s no question that Liberator is the one to go with!
