We’re back home!
After nearly a year of travelling throughout Central America with our 2 year old, the Mister and I are very very glad to be back home in Canada. We sure missed our friends and family. We missed the moderate (actually cold!) weather here. It wasn’t until we opened up our storage locker that I realized how much I actually missed our huge toy collection! In some countries, sex toys can be extremely hard to come by due to government regulations and taxes. I had managed to score a beautiful glass dildo in Costa Rica, but there weren’t many other options available for safe sex toys.
The first chance we had back home, the Mister and I went to one of our local sex shops and browsed around for about an hour and a half! I was on the lookout for a particular piece that I wasn’t ever able to find, but I did end up with the Fun Factory Big Boss G5 Black Line Vibrator. This is fast becoming my go-to vibrator.
Big Boss G5 Review
Fun Factory is absolutely one of my favorite toy manufacturers. This German sex toy company that began in the late 1990’s is well known for their fun colours, interesting shapes, and total commitment to 100% body safe products.
At this point, I’m not even sure how many Fun Factory products I own. A lot. You can read my review of the Fun Factory Tiger Black Line; the Big Boss is similar to the Tiger but bigger and a bit differently shaped.
The Big Boss is just that; a big vibrator! There are so many things that I love about this toy but let’s first mention the ONLY thing that I dislike about the Big Boss.
Draggy, black, matte silicone. Ugh.
What was I thinking?
Oh don’t get me wrong. It feels wonderful. But look at the dust and lint that it collects! If you’re going to purchase this toy, do yourself a favor and buy the pink or nude version with the white handle.
Once I move past the fact that this toy is like a black pea coat in a house full of white cats, it’s great.
Big Boss G5:
It is 9.25 inches long total with about 6.7″ of insertable shaft. There’s a slight curve to the shaft that hugs the front of your vagina as you’re moving it in and out.
The Big Boss is girthy. There’s no getting around that. You are definitely going to want to use your (waterbased) lubrication liberally here. At the widest point, it measures about 1.8″ across. Yes it’s not the widest vibrator I own, but the silicone isn’t particularly forgiving so you can definitely feel every ridge. When I notice the girth the most is when I’m trying to take it out when I’m finished with it. This is also compounded by the material and texture of the shaft.
Of course the shaft is made from 100% medical grade silicone. Silicone isn’t even the gold standard anymore; it’s a minimum standard. I’m glad to see that silicone is becoming the standard for more and more sex toy companies.
You’ll notice that, as silicone toys are getting more and more common, the prices are dropping considerably. In turn, the price of toys made from cheap, porous, and non-body safe materials are falling dramatically at the same time. This is great work by consumers like you to turn the market to exclude non-body safe materials. The next big step will be from one of the big retailers like Adam & Eve or Lovehoney to exclude these items completely from their inventory.
Anyways. I digress.
I was going to talk about why the material makes the Big Boss feel so much bigger than it actually is. Yes it’s silicone, but it’s one of the more draggy dildos I have ever encountered. What this means is that the surface of the shaft isn’t particularly slippery. Of course, once you add a liberal amount of lube, the Big Boss goes where ever you want! Be sure to add lube periodically if you’re planning a long session though.
Not suprisingly, Fun Factory delivers yet another super rumbly vibrator and it will definitely jump off the table at the medium settings. This company simply does not make low quality toys. You have six vibration intensities to choose from and six vibrational patterns. It’s more than enough. I’m a fairly simple being and I prefer just straight, uncomplicated vibration. I find that the second lowest setting is generally enough to help me cum.
The highest setting is pretty darn high! Too much for me, certainly, but I’d say not as powerful as a Hitachi.
Charging is accomplished via a magnetic USB charger and the lights on the + and – sign indicate how much battery life is remaining. I took a few hours and charged my battery full when I brought it home and haven’t had to charge it yet after about 5 moderate length uses.
Ergonomics and Comfort:
Just like the Tiger Black Line, the Big Boss has an awesome handle to hold.
Now, if you’re a single gal (this toy is for vaginal use only; it’s not flared and is not safe for anal use — sorry gents) and are looking for your main use vibrator to use alone, maybe this isn’t the toy for you. If we’re being honest, it’s not particularly comfortable or easy to use the handle on myself. Added to the non-ergonomic solo-use handle is the awkward button placement.
I’ll come clean. My first time using the Big Boss alone, I did what I’m sure many of you have done before. I accidentally turned the vibration off just as I was about to finish! There was no harm done in the end, but it does make you realize how important the location of the off button is on these types of vibrators.
Now, if you’re using this toy with your partner, the handle is completely perfect. You or your partner can just hook the handle through your index or index and middle finger and just flick your wrist to move the toy in and out of the receiver. The buttons stay out of the way here and there’s no accidentally turning the toy off mid orgasm.
Overall Impressions of the Big Boss
Overall, I think that the Big Boss is a really good addition to anyone’s toybox, either as an occasional use vibrator or as the main toy. Women who like vibrators with quite a bit of girth will appreciate the size of the shaft. The thickness coupled with the firmness of the silicone allows this toy to give you that “full” feeling every time. While the Big Boss certainly can be used for alone time masturbation, I find that it really shines as a partner tool. The handle can most comfortably fit a hand while thrusting towards a partner.
The slight curve doesn’t offer dramatic G-spot stimulation but it does have constant contact with the front of your vaginal wall.
The vibrational spectrum contains only 6 levels, but I have no problem finding an intensity that meets my demands. If anything I would say that it is overpowered, but that’s just my opinion and I think women who enjoy very powerful vibrators will find this up to the task.
